ULTRADEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOL
ULTRADEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOL, BAK, basis voor actuele kunst, Utrecht, Oct 2022

ULTRADEPENDENT PUBLIC SCHOOL is on the way!
COMING SOON IN APRIL-MAY 2023
UPS has been fermenting a curriculum in collective since October 2022. It is a result of BAK Community Portal's federated research, which has been ongoing, arguably, since 2019. Way before the Portal was even born. 2019 was the year Jeanne van Heeswijk and company began a fundamental retooling of how the institution could better put itself at the service of its community. This shift materialized through Trainings for the Not-Yet <<<< an exhibition as a series of trainings on how to be together otherwise.
We have been sharing progress updates, modestly, on the @ultradependentpublicschool finsta. And some on the @bakbasis general and stories feeds. More enthusiastically, we will begin communicating the full line-up of UPS collaborators and accomplices very soon, once the final tiny pieces fall into place. In the meantime, here are some mock-ups or >>>> to borrow a term from one of our study groups led by @waningq and @hosisters >>>> critical fabulations of the kind of study we are aiming for.
WE OUT HERE
By our last count, we are 51 individuals and 9 collectives working on this curriculum. A MASSIVE TEAM, an organizational puzzle that sometimes feels like an escape room, a smorgasbord of spreadsheets, all roiling to track the innards of this living organism that we call a school. Perhaps for lack of a better word. But oh well. The simplest words are not necessarily lacking in fertility. Anyway. It's gonna be festive, to say the least.
GENEALOGY
Due credit to Jeanine van Berkel, in-house designer of the Community Portal, for mocking up a temporary/sandbox identity for UPS while our other collaborators Sean van den Steenhoven and Dante Carlos cook up a visual system using typographic research by @crickxson Pierre Huyghebaert and friends.
Redacted documentation from Trainings for the Not-Yet features excerpts from trainings by Bakudapan and Patricia Kaersenhout. Original photos care of Tom Janssen.
