You and the City. Diaries of a Future Avant-garde is Jeanne van Heeswijk’s three-part project in Slovenia, started in September 2008 (Ljubljana, Tobacna tovarna, September 2008; Novo mesto, Simulaker Gallery, November 2008; Ljubljana, Center and Gallery P74 and RTV Slovenija, January 2009). It consists of a series of workshops in which teenagers discuss such issues as social change and revolutionary visions of adolescents, and learn to formulate and exchange views and opinions.
In the first two parts of the project, girls of different backgrounds wrote blogs about crucial social issues, including the status of women in society and the need to focus on feminist topics. In Ljubljana they wrote about their experiences of living in a city (this was part of the Museum in the Streets project), while in Novo mesto they continue to post their opinions on the Magazine Park website http://www.park.si/kategorija/ti-v-mestu/.
The final part of the project was a debate on the issues discussed so far, which took place in the program “Jasno in glasno” broadcasted on RTV Slovenia channel 2. In addition to the girls already involved, high-school students from Gimnazija Sentvid will take part in the debate, under the mentorship of Tatjana Brank Pecko. The show is moderated by Anzej Dezan and Masa Kljun; the script was written by Natasa Gasi in collaboration with Jeanne van Heeswijk. The project was organized by Moderna galerija and is part of the action “Hosting Moderna galerija!” www.mg-lj.si/node/143.
